DC Health professional licensing boards

Credential authorities and online entry checked; full filing requirements limited. Some filing instructions were checked, but complete instructions for every listed credential have not been verified. Read the limits for your route.

Authority and scope

Check the license and concern

DC Health licenses psychologists and psychology associates, professional and graduate professional counselors, social workers at several levels, marriage/family therapists, and certified addiction counselors I and II. Its licensing pages identify separate psychology and social-work boards. Addiction counseling appears under Professional Counseling. The current board directory lists MFT separately while the Professional Counseling page also lists MFT licensing; ask DC Health to confirm the reviewing board for that credential.

Match the route to the credential

Use the license listed in the practitioner’s records or official license lookup. A psychiatrist is a physician; psychiatric nurses have nursing credentials. Some psychologists have prescribing authority, so medication alone does not identify the licensing board.

Submission

Checked steps and filing details to confirm

  • Use the current DC Health complaint selector and choose the link for a healthcare professional licensed by DC Health. The selector links to an online REDCap intake. The entry is confirmed; its full questions and filing requirements could not be checked.
  • Identify the professional’s precise license or certification and practice location. Prepare treatment dates, a factual account, relevant communications and witness details. Distinguish allegations about several individual practitioners or an organization.
  • Before providing records, ask DC Health which signatures, treatment-record authorization, identity documentation or representative authority are required, especially when filing for a child or another adult. Current notarization requirements were not established.
  • For help obtaining current filing instructions or an alternative method, contact the complaint office at 877-672-2174. Do not assume an older paper form or an ordinary board contact email is the current authorized submission method.

Limits

What this route may not provide

The current complaint page separates licensed healthcare-professional complaints from licensed facility complaints. A program or substance-use facility concern needs the appropriate institutional route; it is not automatically a complaint about a counselor’s credential. Psychiatrist MD/DO and psychiatric-nurse complaints use the medical or nursing guides. Monetary remedies and ordinary billing-dispute exclusions were not established for these behavioral-health routes.

Anonymity

Do not guess about confidentiality

The current selector does not establish anonymous filing, confidentiality, disclosure to the practitioner, therapy-record release terms or public access to the complaint. Ask about each before supplying sensitive information. The identity and consent rules of one DC board were not verified as applying to all these credentials.

Complaint timing

Ask promptly; filing deadlines unverified

A filing deadline was not established by this check; ask promptly for the particular credential and allegation. No acknowledgment or completion target was established from the current complaint selector.

Process

What may happen after filing

The licensing pages establish complaint-handling responsibilities, but current screening, investigation, hearing and outcome-notification details remain limited. Obtain the applicable board’s procedure and ask how to receive a case reference, provide further evidence and check status.

Evidence

Prepare a reviewable submission

State the concern you want reviewed, give a short chronology and factual consequences, and explain your request. Keep supporting records and follow the receiving authority’s instructions before attaching or sending them.

Sources and scope

Some agency-linked forms and destinations could not be read. Source-check dates apply to the material listed below; they do not establish that every linked portal was inspected or a complaint submitted.

Latest guide source check: September 19, 2026. Individual sources retain their own check dates. This records a review of the linked material, not a decision about your case. No clinical or legal reviewer is identified for this guide. Confirm current instructions with the receiving authority.
