Care first. Seek urgent medical or dental attention for serious or worsening symptoms. Researching or preparing a complaint should never delay treatment.

Texas State Board of Dental Examiners

Individually verified complaint information, limitations, and source conflicts.

Authority and scope

What the Board says it reviews

Licensed dentists, hygienists, registered dental assistants, dental laboratories, quality-of-care allegations, sanitation, professional conduct, abandonment, and Board-rule concerns.

Limits

What this route may not provide

The Board says it does not handle ordinary fee disputes. It cannot award general damages; its sources describe limited restitution for actual out-of-pocket treatment expenses only in certain below-standard-of-care cases. Its current form directs insurance-billing concerns to the Texas Department of Insurance.

Anonymity

Do not guess about confidentiality

Official sources conflict. The complaint webpage says anonymous complaints are not accepted; the current complaint form describes anonymous complaints as receiving no status updates. Confirm directly with the Board before relying on anonymity.

Complaint deadline

Texas Dental Board: usually within 4 years

The Board's current form says it generally will not review a complaint filed more than 4 years after the treatment or event—or more than 4 years after you reasonably should have discovered it. This is the Dental Board's complaint deadline, not the deadline for a lawsuit.

Process

What may happen after filing

The current form describes an initial jurisdiction and possible-violation review, followed by a formal investigation when appropriate. The Board webpage says complainants receive written status at least quarterly.

Evidence

Prepare a reviewable submission

Use a one-sentence safety concern, short chronology, best supporting records, factual consequences, and a specific request for review.

A state authority is one checkpoint—not the entire accountability system.
