Care first. Seek urgent medical or dental attention for serious or worsening symptoms. Researching or preparing a complaint should never delay treatment.

Psychology Board; LPC Board; Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners; ADRA; and LSBME for medical psychologists

Psychology, counseling/MFT, addiction and medical-psychology guidance checked; social-work intake limited. Some filing instructions were checked, but complete instructions for every listed credential have not been verified. Read the limits for your route.

Authority and scope

Check the license and concern

Psychologists and licensed specialists in school psychology use LSBEP. LPC, PLPC, LMFT and PLMFT credentials use the LPC Board. ADRA separately regulates addiction counselors and prevention professionals. Registered, master’s and clinical social workers have the separate Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners; its complaint instructions were not established. Medical psychologists are separately licensed by LSBME: do not send every prescribing-psychologist concern to LSBEP.

Match the route to the credential

Use the license listed in the practitioner’s records or official license lookup. A psychiatrist is a physician; psychiatric nurses have nursing credentials. Some psychologists have prescribing authority, so medication alone does not identify the licensing board.

Submission

Checked steps and filing details to confirm

  • LSBEP: complete its online complaint with practitioner/patient details, dates, allegations, witnesses and supporting documents; sign and date. Ask about the separate consent/release mentioned on its main site, especially when complaining for another patient.
  • LPC/MFT: use the LPC Board’s own online form, including relationship, dates, narrative and electronic signature. Additional supporting documents may be mailed or emailed to lpcboard@lpcboard.org. Another professional board may require a separate complaint.
  • ADRA: current rules require a signed written complaint. Ask its office at 225-361-0698 for delivery and patient-record requirements; the linked complaint-help page was unavailable.
  • Medical psychologists: LSBME requires a written complaint and signed release allowing a complaint copy to the licensee; its page directs completed forms by mail or fax. Social-work filers should obtain instructions from their separate regulator.

Limits

What this route may not provide

LSBEP cannot award damages or restitution, resolve fee disputes or impose criminal penalties. The LPC Board excludes wage disputes and a judge’s custody ruling. Refund powers of ADRA, the social-work authority and LSBME were not established in this check.

Anonymity

Do not guess about confidentiality

LSBEP says investigations are nonpublic; anonymous complaints are rarely pursued without independently verifiable information. LPC’s form offers anonymity, but its instructions require documentation clearly showing a violation for anonymous acceptance; accepted complaints may be provided to the respondent on request with personal information redacted. ADRA rejects anonymous complaints, notifies the subject of allegations, and publishes final decisions/consent orders. Its confidentiality rule contains a complaint-related disclosure exception, subject to other law. Social-work identity/disclosure rules remain unverified.

Complaint timing

Ask promptly about filing time limits

A filing deadline was not established by this check; ask promptly. No board-specific consumer filing period or reliable completion estimate was established across these separate routes.

Process

What may happen after filing

LSBEP represents the public; complainants may be witnesses, not parties. LPC screens jurisdiction and possible violations before investigation. ADRA may investigate, resolve informally or hold disciplinary proceedings. These processes and disclosures should not be transferred to social work.
